What Is Sankombi? Sanum Mucor and Aspergillus Drops Explained

Educational information on traditional homeopathic use only. It is not medical advice.

Sankombi® D5 is a liquid homeopathic remedy from the German company Sanum-Kehlbeck. It is a mixture of two preparations that are also sold on their own: Mucokehl® (made from the mould Mucor racemosus) and Nigersan® (made from Aspergillus niger). Both are diluted to D5, which is why the name is often written "Sankombi D5 Tropfen" on German packaging.

The short version

  • What it is: a D5 homeopathic dilution of Mucor racemosus and Aspergillus niger, in a base of purified water and ethanol.
  • Made by: Sanum-Kehlbeck, Hoya, Germany.
  • Pack: a 10ml dropper bottle.
  • Usual label directions: 5 drops once or twice daily by mouth for adults and children over 12.
  • Traditional use: an accompanying remedy in long-standing conditions, often associated with circulation and the body's internal environment.

What is in Sankombi?

The two active ingredients are Mucor racemosus and Aspergillus niger, both common environmental moulds. In homeopathy, and specifically in the branch called isopathy, a remedy can be prepared from the organism it is named after. The organism is then diluted many times, and at each step the preparation is shaken or succussed. By D5 (one part in 100,000) the remedy contains very little of the original material.

Sankombi is the combination of the two single remedies in one bottle. Sanum makes the same two organisms individually as Mucokehl and Nigersan, and Sankombi simply puts them together. The German word "Mischung" printed on the box means "mixture".

Where does Sankombi come from?

Sanum remedies follow the work of the German researcher Günther Enderlein, who described microorganisms that change their form in the body depending on conditions. His followers call this pleomorphism, and Sanum-Kehlbeck's remedies are made to fit within that framework. You do not need to accept the theory to buy the remedies, but it explains why a mould and a yeast are used as medicines in this tradition.

What is Sankombi traditionally used for?

Sankombi is a registered homeopathic medicine, which means the German label gives no therapeutic indication. In practice it is often known to be used as an accompanying remedy in long-standing conditions where the body's internal environment (the "terrain" or "milieu") is thought to be out of balance. Practitioners also often associate Mucokehl and Nigersan with circulation, the veins, and the structure of connective tissue and mucous membranes. These are traditional uses, not proven medical effects, and we make no claim that Sankombi treats or cures any condition.

How is Sankombi taken?

  • By mouth: 5 drops once or twice daily for adults and children over 12.
  • On the skin: 5 to 10 drops rubbed into the crook of the elbow once a day.
  • Duration: labels normally advise not to continue beyond about four weeks without advice.

Always follow the leaflet in your pack or your practitioner's directions, because dosing can be individualised.

Who should avoid it?

Sankombi is not suitable for children under 12, in pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have an autoimmune condition, or if you are hypersensitive to moulds. If you are unwell, or taking medication, speak to your doctor or practitioner first.

Sankombi, Mucokehl or Nigersan?

If you want both organisms together, Sankombi is one bottle instead of two. If a practitioner has recommended one remedy alone, buy that one. Single remedies allow each dose to be set separately, which many practitioners prefer. Our comparison, Mucokehl vs Nigersan vs Sankombi, sets out the differences in detail.

Sankombi with Albicansan

Many customers order Sankombi together with Albicansan, the Sanum remedy made from Candida albicans. We sell one of each as a pack at 5% less than buying them separately: Albicansan + Sankombi Drops Duo.
