Mucor and Aspergillus are common moulds found in soil, damp buildings, food and dust. Most healthy people breathe them in daily without problems. People with weakened immunity, lung conditions or heavy exposure may react, and a doctor should assess any breathing problems, persistent cough or recurring infections. This guide explains the two moulds, what sensible steps people take about mould exposure, and how Sanum's isopathic remedies made from them are traditionally used.
What are Mucor and Aspergillus?
- Mucor: a fast-growing mould found on soil, decaying plants and some foods, often seen as grey, fluffy growth on bread or fruit.
- Aspergillus: a large group of moulds including Aspergillus niger, the black mould seen on damp walls and some fruit and vegetables.
When should you see a doctor?
- persistent cough, wheeze or breathlessness
- repeated sinus or chest infections
- you are immunosuppressed, have asthma or lung disease, or are pregnant
- symptoms improve when you are away from a particular building
What can you do about mould at home?
- find and fix the damp source: leaks, condensation and poor ventilation
- ventilate bathrooms and kitchens, and dry laundry outside where possible
- clean small areas of visible mould safely, and get professional help for large areas
- discard mouldy food rather than cutting the mould off
Where do homeopathic remedies come in?
Sanum's isopathic remedies are made from these same moulds, highly diluted. Mucokehl (Mucor racemosus), Nigersan (Aspergillus niger) and Sankombi (both) are often known to be used by practitioners as part of a programme to support the body's terrain. They do not remove mould from a home, do not replace medical care and are not a treatment for infection.
Choosing between them
Our guide Mucokehl vs Nigersan vs Sankombi explains each. For individual remedies see What Is Mucokehl? and What Is Nigersan?
Cautions
They are not suitable for anyone hypersensitive to moulds, for children under 12, in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with autoimmune conditions.
Frequently asked questions
Do these remedies treat mould illness?
No. They are traditional homeopathic remedies, not treatments for mould-related illness. See a doctor.
Is there mould in the bottle?
The remedy is a homeopathic dilution (D5) of the mould, not a mould culture.
Can I combine them with Albicansan?
Practitioners sometimes pair a mould remedy with the yeast remedy Albicansan. Ask yours.
