How to Take Traumeel S Ampoules by Mouth: A Step-by-Step Guide

Educational information on traditional homeopathic use only. Not medical advice.

One of the most common questions we hear is simple: can you really just drink a Traumeel ampoule? The short answer is that the label directions on our product pages describe exactly that. The contents of the ampoule are tapped into a glass of water and taken by mouth. Here is the process in order, with the practical details that the one-line label does not spell out.

The label directions

The wording on our pages is the same for every size: break the vial or ampoule at the marker, tap the contents into a glass of water, and take it with water over 15 to 20 minutes. Take it outside of food, meaning about 10 to 15 minutes before or after eating or drinking anything else. Other methods of use, including injection (i.m., s.c., i.d., i.v.), are for trained individuals, e.g. practitioners.

Step by step

  1. Wash your hands and check the ampoule. Look for the marker (a coloured dot or ring on the neck). Check the liquid is clear and the glass is intact.
  2. Hold the neck away from you. Tap the top of the ampoule so any liquid in the neck falls back into the body.
  3. Snap at the marker. Pinch the head with a tissue or small cloth for grip and snap it away from you. Ampoules are designed to break cleanly, but glass is glass. Our general guide, how to open ampoules, and the storing and opening guide have more detail.
  4. Tap the contents into a glass of water. Tilt the ampoule and let it empty. A little still water at room temperature is fine.
  5. Sip it slowly. The label says to take it over 15 to 20 minutes, so treat it as a slow drink rather than a shot.
  6. Bin the glass safely. Put used ampoules in a rigid container, not loose in a bin bag, especially if children are around.

How many ampoules?

For every Traumeel S ampoule page (10 x 2.2 ml, 100 x 2.2 ml, 5 x 5 ml and 50 x 5 ml) the wording is the same: normal dosage is 1 ampoule every 3 days. In acute disorders, 1 ampoule a day. Please also follow the leaflet or printed directions on the box you actually receive.

Those figures are quoted from the labels, not a recommendation for you personally. A practitioner who knows your history is the right person to tell you how many to take and for how long.

Practical tips

  • Pick a regular moment. Many people take theirs mid-morning or before bed, away from meals, so the timing around food is easy to keep.
  • No need to hold it in the mouth. The label simply says to take it with water over 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Keep a note. If you are using ampoules after a knock or at the start of a training block, jot down the date and number taken. It helps you and any practitioner see what you have done.
  • Do not use a damaged ampoule. If the glass is cracked or the liquid looks cloudy, discard it and contact us.

Who should check first?

Speak to your practitioner or doctor before using ampoules if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are giving them to a child, if you take regular medicines, or if you know you react to plants in the daisy family. Persistent, severe or worsening symptoms need medical assessment, and homeopathic remedies are not a substitute for that. Our article on taking Traumeel with other medicines explains why it is wise to mention everything you take.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add the ampoule to a bottle of water?

The label says a glass of water, taken over 15 to 20 minutes. A small glass keeps the timing simple.

What if I forget and eat straight after?

The directions ask for 10 to 15 minutes either side of food. If you slip, simply carry on with your next ampoule as usual; do not double up.

Is there alcohol or anything else I should know about?

Check the box and leaflet for the full list of ingredients and any other constituents, especially if you avoid certain substances, and ask your practitioner if you are unsure.

Is oral use the only way?

For home use, yes, oral use is what the directions describe. Other routes are for trained individuals, e.g. practitioners.
