Neuropathic Pain: Traditional Homeopathic and Supplement Options People Look At

Educational information on traditional homeopathic use only. Not medical advice.

Neuropathic pain is the name doctors give to pain that comes from a nerve that is damaged, irritated or misfiring, rather than from an injury to the tissue around it. People describe it as burning, shooting, stabbing, electric or tingling, and it can arrive with pins and needles or a sensitivity to touch that seems out of all proportion. It is hard to live with and hard to explain to others, so it is no surprise that many people look beyond the usual options and ask what else is out there.

This guide is a calm overview. It explains what neuropathic pain is, when it needs a doctor before anything else, and which traditional homeopathic and supplement products we stock that people commonly look at alongside medical care. It does not promise any result, and none of these products replaces a diagnosis.

See a doctor first if you notice any of these

Nerve pain can be a sign of something that needs proper investigation, so please do not start with a remedy. Speak to your GP or another doctor promptly if you have:

  • numbness, or loss of feeling, that is spreading or getting worse;
  • weakness in a hand, arm, leg or foot, or things slipping from your grip;
  • diabetes, or a family history of it, with tingling or burning in the feet or hands;
  • sudden severe pain, pain after an injury, or pain with a rash that looks like shingles;
  • problems with bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin or inner thighs (seek urgent care);
  • pain that wakes you at night, keeps returning, or has no clear cause.

Nerve pain is linked in medicine with many different causes, including diabetes, shingles, pressure on a nerve in the spine, vitamin shortfalls and some medicines. Finding the cause matters, because that is what shapes the right treatment. If you already take prescribed medicines for nerve pain, do not stop or change them because of anything you read here.

How homeopathy looks at nerve pain

In traditional homeopathy, nerve pain is not treated as one condition. Remedies are chosen by the pattern of the pain: where it is, what makes it better or worse, and whether it comes with cramping, restlessness or poor sleep. In the Heel antihomotoxic tradition, a basic neuralgia remedy is often paired with others chosen by location. Our longer guide to natural remedies for nerve pain and neuralgia walks through that approach in detail, so this article takes a wider view of the options people compare.

Traditional homeopathic options

Neuralgo-Rheum-Injeel

Neuralgo-Rheum-Injeel is traditionally associated with neuralgia and with rheumatism of the soft tissues. Its product page links it with neuralgia of varied location and cause, including sciatica, intercostal and occipital neuralgia, and stabbing or tearing pains. It is a combination preparation of several potentised remedies, including Causticum, Colchicum, Colocynthis, Rhus toxicodendron and Spiraea ulmaria, and it is listed as a box of 10 ampoules, with a bulk option. The page notes that injection routes are for trained individuals such as practitioners.

Hypericum Injeel

Hypericum is the classic homeopathic remedy people associate with nerve-rich parts of the body. Hypericum Injeel is a single-remedy preparation of potentised Hypericum perforatum (St John's wort), traditionally associated with injuries of the nerves and with neural pains after injury, such as after a puncture wound. It comes as a box of 10 ampoules.

Magnesium Phosphoricum Injeel Forte

Magnesium phosphoricum is one of the classic homeopathic cell salts, traditionally linked with cramp, spasm and neuralgic pain. Magnesium Phosphoricum Injeel Forte is the stronger single-remedy ampoule in Heel's Injeel range. People who notice that their nerve pain comes with cramping often look at this one.

Spascupreel

When nerve pain comes with muscle tightness, people sometimes explore Spascupreel. Its page describes it for the temporary relief of muscle spasms anywhere in the body, and it contains Magnesium phosphoricum, Gelsemium and Colocynthis among its ingredients. It is available as ampoules or tablets; follow the directions on the product page.

Dr Reckeweg R70 Neuralgia Drops

Dr Reckeweg R70 is a 50 ml bottle of drops that the product page lists for neuralgias in various areas, including trigeminal and facial neuralgia, and neuritis. Its ingredients are given as Aconitum, Cedron, Colocynthis, Kalmia and Verbascum. The page notes that if R70 is out of stock, United Remedies offers its own combination with the same ingredients. Read the label directions before use.

Nervoheel and Neurexan

Living with nerve pain often disturbs sleep and mood, and some people look at remedies for those effects rather than the pain itself. Nervoheel is listed for emotional distress and insomnia, and Neurexan is listed for sleep disturbance, restless sleep and an over-active mind. Neither is a pain remedy.

Supplements people commonly look at

Alongside homeopathy, people with nerve symptoms often ask about nutrition. These are food supplements, not medicines, and they are not a treatment for any condition.

  • Zooki Magnesium is a liquid magnesium bisglycinate sachet. Its page states that magnesium supports normal muscle and nerve function, and lists muscle cramps, restless legs and sleep among the reasons people choose it. A capsule form, Zooki Magnesium Glycinate, is also available.
  • Zooki Vitamin B12 is a liposomal methylcobalamin sachet. Its page notes that B12 supports normal nervous-system function and is a common shortfall for vegans and vegetarians. If you have tingling or numbness, ask your doctor whether your B12 level should be checked rather than assuming a cause.

We do not currently stock an alpha-lipoic acid supplement, so we have not included one here. Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about any supplement you take, particularly if you have diabetes or take regular medicines.

What else can help

Practical steps are worth as much as any product. Gentle movement, a good sleep routine, comfortable footwear, avoiding prolonged pressure on a painful limb and checking your feet daily if you have diabetes are all sensible habits. If pain keeps you up at night or stops you doing everyday things, ask your doctor about a referral; pain clinics and physiotherapists see nerve pain every day.

Frequently asked questions

Is neuropathic pain the same as neuralgia?

The terms overlap. Neuralgia usually means sharp pain along the path of one nerve, while neuropathic pain is a broader term for pain caused by nerve damage or dysfunction. Both are best assessed by a doctor.

Can I use these products with my prescribed medicines?

Some product pages say no interactions are known, but you should still tell your doctor or pharmacist what you take, and never stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Which one should I start with?

There is no single answer. Traditional homeopathy matches a remedy to the pattern of pain, so a practitioner can help. Our Natural Remedy Finder is a good starting point, and you can also contact our team.

Are they suitable in pregnancy or for children?

Ask your practitioner or doctor first. Some preparations contain alcohol, and not every page gives directions for children.

Will I notice a difference quickly?

Responses vary and we cannot promise any result or timeframe. If your symptoms worsen or do not settle, see your doctor.
