Traumeel guide: choosing your form

Traditional homeopathic use, education only. Speak to your doctor before you start any remedy, and follow the directions on the pack.

Traumeel S comes in five forms: ampoules, tablets, drops, gel and ointment. They are separate products, each with its own page, pack sizes and directions. This guide shows what each form is, how it is supplied, and how the packs compare. It does not tell you which one you need. For that, speak to a practitioner or use our free consultation.

1. The five forms at a glance

1.1 Ampoules

Traumeel S ampoules are also called Traumeel S solution. Each ampoule is a single glass vial. You break it at the marker, tap the contents into a glass of water and take it slowly by mouth, away from food. The product page says other methods of use, including injection, are for trained individuals such as practitioners.

The product page states: "Normal dosage is 1 ampoule every 3 days. In acute disorders, 1 ampoule every day." It adds: break the ampoule at the marker and take with water. Follow the directions on the pack.

Two sizes are sold: the 2.2 ml ampoule and the larger 5 ml ampoule. Both are described on their product pages as Traumeel S ampoules. They are different packs, so check the size on the box you choose.

1.2 Tablets

Small tablets that you let dissolve slowly in the mouth. The product page says they can be mixed with a little water. The page lists one contraindication: hypersensitivity to botanicals of the Compositae family.

1.3 Drops

A liquid in a bottle. Our dosage page says adults and children above 11 years take 10 drops by mouth three times daily, or as directed by a physician. The drops contain 35 vol.-% alcohol, as the product page states.

1.4 Gel

A topical gel, applied to the skin over the area. The product page says to apply a thin layer two to three times daily and to keep it away from broken skin, eyes and lips.

1.5 Ointment

A topical ointment, applied in the same way as the gel. The product page describes the gel as a lighter, cooling gel and the ointment as a richer, more emollient base. Neither is taken by mouth.

Our dosage page also notes that all oral remedies should be taken separate from food. Ampoules, tablets and drops are oral. Gel and ointment are not.

2. How the packs compare

2.1 Ampoules

Pack Ampoule size Price Per ampoule
Box of 10 2.2 ml £33.40 £3.34
Box of 100 2.2 ml £239.10 £2.39
3 boxes of 100 (bulk option) 2.2 ml £681.45 £2.27
Box of 5 5 ml £26.50 £5.30
Box of 50 5 ml £211.10 £4.22
3 boxes of 50 (bulk option) 5 ml £601.65 £4.01

The 5 ml ampoule is a larger size, so it is not a like-for-like price comparison with the 2.2 ml boxes. More on this in our articles on 2.2 ml or 5 ml and 10, 100 or 3 x 100.

2.2 Tablets

Pack Price Per tablet
Box of 50 £12.47 £0.25
Box of 250 £36.93 £0.15
30 boxes of 50 (bulk option) £355.40 £0.24
15 boxes of 250 (bulk option) £526.25 £0.14

2.3 Drops

Pack Price

100 ml bottle £37.15
10 x 30 ml (bulk option) £136.35
10 x 100 ml (bulk option) £352.95

2.4 Gel and ointment

Form Pack Price
Gel 50 g tube £13.86
Gel 2 x 50 g (bulk option) £26.33
Gel 250 g tube £51.98
Gel 25 x 50 g (bulk option) £329.18
Gel 4 x 250 g (bulk option) £197.55
Ointment 50 g tube £11.80
Ointment 100 g tube £21.98
Ointment 25 x 50 g (bulk option) £280.25
Ointment 10 x 100 g (bulk option) £208.81

The bulk options are the multi-box packs. Their listed price is below the price of buying the same number of single boxes. A single box of 100 ampoules is not a bulk option and keeps its own price.

3. Practical differences

  1. Taken or applied. Ampoules, tablets and drops are taken by mouth. Gel and ointment are applied to the skin.
  2. Carrying. Ampoules are glass, so they need care. Tablets are the simplest to carry. See our article on gel, tablets and drops.
  3. Gel or ointment. Our article on gel or ointment sets the two side by side.
  4. More than one form. The product pages say the gel is suitable for use alongside Traumeel tablets and ampoules. Ask a practitioner if you take other medicines or are unsure.

For the exact amount and timing, follow the directions on the pack and see our dosage page. Children's amounts are not given here. Ask a practitioner before giving any remedy to a child.

4. Bundles

These are real bundles with their own pages. Each shows a compare-at price above the bundle price.

For the Zeel forms and packs, see our Zeel T guide. Our Zeel and Traumeel comparison explains how the two remedies differ.

5. Also in the Traumeel range

Oteel (Traumeel ear drops) come as 10 vials of 0.45 ml, £24.95. Browse everything in the Traumeel collection.

6. For animals (veterinary)

This is a separate veterinary product, not the human range above: Traumeel ad us vet tablets, box of 250, £42.70. It has its own page and its own directions for animals.

7. Next steps
