Natural Remedies for Eczema and Dermatitis

Natural Remedy Guides

Dry, itchy, flaking patches that crack and weep, then settle only to flare again — eczema and dermatitis can be exhausting, and the urge to reach straight for a steroid cream is understandable. This guide explains how the antihomotoxic approach looks at inflamed, irritated skin, and which Heel remedies do what.

Eczema and dermatitis both describe inflamed, reactive skin — red, itchy and sometimes weeping or scaly. Rather than treating the skin in isolation, the approach below works on the skin, the liver and the lymphatic drainage together, because in this model the skin is one of the body's most important routes of elimination.

Understanding eczema and dermatitis

In the homotoxicology framework, eczema is understood as an ectodermal reaction phase, and acute dermatitis likewise as an ectodermal reaction (passing into an impregnation phase when it becomes chronic) — the skin acting as a reaction organ through which homotoxins are eliminated (Biotherapeutic Index, Therapeutic Index, ‘Eczema’ and ‘Dermatitis, dermatoses’). The compendium is emphatic that acute allergic dermatitis ‘should in no way be treated retoxically’, since suppressing the skin's reaction risks driving the disturbance inward or into a chronic form.

An antihomotoxic approach therefore does the opposite of suppression: it supports the skin's reaction while opening the body's other drainage channels — the liver and the lymph — so the load on the skin eases.

The antihomotoxic approach

For chronic eczema the compendium's main remedy is Graphites-Homaccord, indicated for ‘eczema, particularly dry, chronic’ and for long-term therapy. The sulphur remedy Schwef-Heel runs alongside it — the book describes it for ‘dermatosis, in particular irritant eczema’ and as an effective detoxicating sulphur therapy.

Crucially, the book runs a simultaneous hepatic (liver) therapy and lymphatic drainage in parallel, using Hepeel to stimulate the liver and Lymphomyosot to drain the homotoxically strained connective tissue. For acute, hot dermatitis it adds Belladonna-Homaccord, and for chronic, deep-seated cases Psorinoheel with Galium-Heel.

Recommended remedies

The remedies the compendium names for eczema and dermatitis, with the picks it flags for particular presentations:

  • Graphites-Homaccord — the main remedy for dry, chronic eczema and long-term therapy.
  • Schwef-Heel — the sulphur therapy for irritant eczema and dermatosis.
  • Belladonna-Homaccord — for the acute, hot, inflamed stage.
  • Psorinoheel — a main remedy for chronic dermatitis and deep-seated, constitutional skin cases.
  • Hepeel — to stimulate the hepatic (liver) function as part of the parallel detox.
  • Lymphomyosot — to drain the homotoxically strained connective tissue and support the lymph.
  • Galium-Heel — as a general detoxicating remedy in chronic cases.
  • Traumeel S tablets — where there is a tendency to weeping, pustular or suppurating eczema.
  • Cutis compositum — for constitutional therapy of the skin, used by practitioners in resistant cases.

How to use them

A typical everyday regimen from the compendium takes Schwef-Heel 8–10 drops three times daily, with Graphites-Homaccord 8–10 drops three times daily in chronic cases and Belladonna-Homaccord 8–10 drops three to six times daily in the acute stage. Run the liver support in parallel: Hepeel and (in chronic cases) Psorinoheel with Galium-Heel, plus Lymphomyosot as an intermediate remedy to keep the lymph moving.

Where the skin is weeping, pustular or suppurating, add Traumeel S tablets, with Traumeel S ointment applied locally. For resistant, constitutional cases the compendium describes practitioner-led injection protocols built around Cutis compositum for the skin, supported by liver and lymph preparations. Because suppressing the skin can drive the problem deeper, it is worth working these protocols through patiently — and having any rapidly spreading or infected rash assessed by a healthcare professional.
