What Is Sanum Fortakehl? Forms, Dosage and Background

Educational information on traditional homeopathic use only. Not medical advice.

Fortakehl is one of the Sanum "-kehl" remedies, a family of isopathic preparations made in Germany. People searching for it often want to know three things: what it is made from, what the different forms are, and how it fits alongside other Sanum remedies. All three are covered below, using the information on our product page.

Buy Sanum Fortakehl

What is Fortakehl?

Fortakehl is a homeopathic remedy made from a mould, Penicillium roquefortii, the same family of mould used in blue cheese. The active ingredient on our page is described as Penicillium roquefortii e volumine cellulae (lyophilised, sterile), in homeopathic dilution that depends on the form. It belongs to the Sanum therapy system, which is built on isopathy, the idea of using highly diluted forms of microorganisms in the hope of nudging the body's balance.

It does not contain active penicillin and is not an antibiotic.

What is it traditionally used for?

Our product page lists traditional uses in four areas:

  • Digestion: a feeling of fullness, pressure or gas after meals, and gut flora that has been disturbed.
  • Immune support: people who keep getting recurring infections, or who report persistent tiredness.
  • Inflammatory conditions: long-standing inflammatory complaints.
  • Respiratory conditions: chronic sinus congestion, and asthma.

These are traditional associations. Asthma, inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis are serious conditions, and Fortakehl must never replace prescribed treatment for them.

Forms, potencies and traditional dosage

Our page lists four options. Different forms are made at different potencies, which is normal in Sanum.

  • Drops 10 ml, 5D: 5 to 10 drops once daily by mouth. The page also describes applying 5 to 10 drops to the bend of the elbow once daily as an alternative.
  • Tablets, box of 20, 5D: 1 tablet once or twice daily.
  • Capsules, box of 20, 4D: 1 capsule once or twice daily.
  • Suppositories, box of 10, 3D: one suppository inserted rectally once daily.

As a general rule in the Sanum tradition, lower numbers (3D, 4D) are more substantial, and 5D is gentler. If you are new to Sanum, the drops are usually the easiest way to begin. For more on potencies, see our Sanum beginner's guide.

Fortakehl, Notakehl and Pefrakehl

These three are often seen together because the names are similar.

  • Fortakehl: Penicillium roquefortii.
  • Notakehl: Penicillium chrysogenum. See our Notakehl guide.
  • Pefrakehl: Candida parapsilosis. See our Pefrakehl guide.

In classic Sanum practice, these are chosen individually by a practitioner and often sequenced with other products rather than taken all at once.

Cautions

  • The page says the remedy is formulated without animal-derived ingredients, but other ingredients vary by form, so check the pack.
  • Ask your practitioner about use in pregnancy, breastfeeding and children.
  • If you are allergic to moulds, tell your practitioner first.
  • See your doctor for blood in the stools, unexplained weight loss, breathlessness or ongoing fatigue.
