Natural Remedy Guides
That first twinge of burning, the constant urge to go, the dragging ache low in the pelvis — a bout of cystitis is hard to ignore, and for many people it comes back again and again. If you would rather not reach for another course of antibiotics every time, this guide explains how the antihomotoxic approach supports the bladder and urinary tract, and which Heel remedies do what.
Cystitis simply means inflammation of the bladder, most often as part of a urinary tract infection (UTI). The symptoms — frequency, urgency, stinging on passing water and sometimes cloudy or strong-smelling urine — are the body working hard to flush an irritant away. The aim here is to support that process rather than suppress it.
Understanding cystitis
In the homotoxicology framework, cystitis is understood as a nephrodermal reaction phase — an active, defensive inflammation through which the body eliminates homotoxins by way of the urinary mucous membrane (Biotherapeutic Index, Therapeutic Index, ‘Cystitis (UTI)’). Because it is a reaction phase, the irritation and increased secretion are part of the healing effort, and an antihomotoxic approach works with that response — draining and soothing the bladder while stimulating the body's own defences.
This matters most for the person whose cystitis keeps returning. Repeatedly cutting the inflammation short can, in this model, push the disturbance deeper; supporting a clean, complete reaction is what helps the bladder settle for the longer term.
The antihomotoxic approach
The compendium names two main remedies for cystitis: Reneel and Berberis-Homaccord. Reneel is directed at the inflamed urinary tract itself, while Berberis-Homaccord addresses ‘inflammation and irritation (with or without concretions) in the region of the urogenital tract’ and is the classic remedy where the discomfort radiates from the kidney region down toward the bladder.
Around these two, the book adds symptom-specific partners: Belladonna-Homaccord for the hot, acutely inflamed phase, and Plantago-Homaccord where there is cystalgia (bladder pain) or enuresis. The strategy is to combine a core anti-inflammatory pair with the remedy that best fits your particular symptoms.
Recommended remedies
The remedies the compendium names for cystitis, with the picks it flags for specific symptoms:
- Reneel — a main remedy, for inflammatory disorders of the urinary tract; taken as tablets through the day.
- Berberis-Homaccord — the second main remedy, for irritation of the urogenital tract, especially with a kidney-to-bladder pattern.
- Belladonna-Homaccord — for the hot, acute, sharply inflamed stage.
- Plantago-Homaccord — where there is bladder pain (cystalgia) or enuresis.
- Traumeel S tablets — named in the book for ‘cystitis and pyuria’, to support a clean anti-inflammatory response.
- Cantharis compositum S — for diseases of the kidneys and bladder, used by practitioners in more intense or resistant cases.
- Solidago compositum S — for constitutional therapy and chronic cystalgia, and to support renal drainage.
How to use them
A typical everyday regimen from the compendium spaces the core remedies through the day: Berberis-Homaccord 8–10 drops at around 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.; Reneel one tablet at around 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; and Belladonna-Homaccord 8–10 drops at around 12 noon and 8 p.m. In an acute flare the book allows the preparations to be taken together, 2, 4 or even 6 times daily, easing back to the spaced routine as symptoms settle. Drink plenty of water throughout.
Where bladder pain dominates, add Plantago-Homaccord; add Traumeel S tablets where the book notes cystitis with pyuria. For stubborn or frequently recurring cases, the compendium describes practitioner-led options — Cantharis compositum S for the kidneys and bladder, and Solidago compositum S for constitutional support and chronic cystalgia — alongside injection protocols. Persistent, feverish or blood-stained cystitis should always be checked by a healthcare professional.
