Educational information on traditional homeopathic use only. Not medical advice.
Nigersan® is a Sanum-Kehlbeck remedy prepared from the mould Aspergillus niger. It is sold as drops, ampoules, suppositories and other forms. German packaging often reads "Nigersan D5 Tropfen", which simply means D5 drops.
What is Aspergillus niger?
Aspergillus niger is the black mould, a very common species found on decaying plants, in soil and on some foods and damp walls. It is also used industrially to make citric acid. As with Mucor, healthy people are exposed to it every day. In Sanum remedies it is used only in homeopathic dilution.
Where does Nigersan fit in Sanum therapy?
Sanum remedies are isopathic: each is prepared from a microorganism, diluted and potentised. They follow the work of Günther Enderlein. Nigersan's labelling describes traditional use to maintain the healthy structure of organs, connective tissue and mucous membranes. Practitioners often associate it with long-standing conditions and with the lungs and respiratory tract, and often use it alongside Mucokehl. These are traditional uses, not proven medical effects.
Nigersan and Mucokehl together
Because the two are so often paired, Sanum makes a mixture of both, Sankombi. Our guide Mucokehl vs Nigersan vs Sankombi sets out the differences and how people choose.
The Nigersan range
- Standard Nigersan: Nigersan in drops and other forms.
- Nigersan Atox: an atoxic version, traditionally associated with excretion. See Nigersan Atox.
How is it taken?
Follow the leaflet in your pack or your practitioner's directions. For D5 drops, typical label directions for adults and children over 12 are about 5 drops once or twice daily by mouth.
Cautions
Not suitable for children under 12, in pregnancy or breastfeeding, with autoimmune conditions or mould hypersensitivity. If you are unwell or taking medication, ask your doctor first.
