Natural Remedy Guides
A sluggish, heavy feeling after rich food or a few too many drinks, a coated tongue, poor appetite, dull skin — many people sense when the liver is carrying more than its share and want to give it gentle, natural support. This guide explains how the antihomotoxic approach supports the liver and the body’s own detoxification, and which Heel remedies do what.
Understanding liver strain and detoxification
In the antihomotoxic approach the liver is the central organ of detoxification, and much of the work of clearing homotoxins runs through it. The compendium places hepatitis in the organodermal reaction or impregnation phase, and liver damage and cirrhosis in the organodermal impregnation or degeneration phase, with Galium-Heel as the main remedy for the deeper phases (Biotherapeutic Index, Therapeutic Index, ‘Hepatitis’ and ‘Liver damage and cirrhosis of the liver’).
A recurring theme is that supporting the liver and bowel comes first. As the compendium explains, remedies such as Nux-Vomica Homaccord are given ‘in order that, when starting antihomotoxic treatment, the toxin level can first be lowered by improving the hepatic and intestinal function’ — alongside drainage of the connective tissue with Lymphomyosot.
The antihomotoxic approach
Hepeel is the everyday liver remedy, indicated for ‘primary and secondary functional disorders of the liver; damaged liver’, and used to stimulate the detoxicating function of the liver with meteorism and loss of appetite. Nux-Vomica Homaccord regulates the hepatic and intestinal function and clears the after-effects of alcohol, coffee and nicotine, lowering the overall toxin load.
Lymphomyosot is the compendium’s ‘important detoxicating and drainage agent’ for the connective tissue — a mesenchymal purge that opens the drainage pathways so the liver’s work is not undone downstream. For a ready-made elimination combination, the Detox Kit brings Lymphomyosot together with kidney and liver drops for the elimination of toxins and stimulation of the cleansing process.
Where there is a clear biliary or hepatitic picture, Chelidonium-Homaccord — the main remedy for hepatitis — is added with Galium-Heel, and deeper liver support is provided by the practitioner injection Hepar compositum, which stimulates the detoxicating function of the liver.
Recommended remedies
The remedies the compendium names for liver support and detoxification:
- Hepeel — the mainstay for functional liver disorders, stimulating the liver’s detoxicating function; good for meteorism and poor appetite.
- Detox Kit — a ready-made drainage combination (Lymphomyosot with kidney and liver drops) for the elimination of toxins and the cleansing process.
- Nux-Vomica Homaccord — to regulate the hepatic and intestinal function and clear the after-effects of alcohol, coffee and nicotine.
- Lymphomyosot — the key detoxicating and drainage agent for the connective tissue (mesenchymal purge).
- Galium-Heel — the main remedy for the deeper liver-damage phases, activating the body’s own defences and detoxification.
- Chelidonium-Homaccord — the main remedy where the picture is biliary or hepatitic (cholangitis, cholecystitis, biliary colic).
- Hepar compositum — the practitioner injection to stimulate the detoxicating function of the liver in more demanding cases.
How to use them
For general liver support, the compendium gives Hepeel one tablet three times daily as hepatic prophylaxis. Pair it with Nux-Vomica Homaccord 10 drops three times daily — and a dose in the evening after alcohol is a useful habit — and with Lymphomyosot 10–20 drops three times daily over a fairly long period to keep the drainage pathways open. The Detox Kit offers all of the drainage groundwork in a single, convenient combination.
For a more structured liver programme, the compendium gives Galium-Heel at 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Hepeel at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Phosphor-Homaccord at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. It adds an important practical note: where the liver is genuinely damaged, it is better to use the ampoule preparations taken orally rather than the alcohol-containing drops.
In more demanding cases, practitioner-led injections come into their own — Hepar compositum once to twice weekly to stimulate the detoxicating liver function, with Coenzyme compositum to support the enzyme systems that drive detoxification.
