Traumeel S ampoules are sold in two vial sizes: the standard 2.2 ml ampoule and a larger 5 ml ampoule. Both are the same named product, but the pages carry different label text, and it is easy to feel unsure which one to choose. This guide sets the two side by side using only what is printed on our product pages.
2.2 ml, box of 10 5 ml, box of 5
The sizes at a glance
- 2.2 ml ampoules: boxes of 10 and 100, plus a 3 x 100 bulk option.
- 5 ml ampoules (the "large" vial): boxes of 5 and 50, plus a 3 x 50 bulk option.
A 5 ml vial holds a little over twice the liquid of a 2.2 ml one. That is simply volume; it does not mean a 5 ml ampoule is "twice as strong" for you, because the label for each is written differently, as the next section shows.
How the labels differ
Composition
The 2.2 ml page gives its composition per 2.2 ml ampoule in microlitres and milligrams (for example Arnica montana D2 and Calendula officinalis D2, 2.2 µl each, and Mercurius solubilis D6, 1.1 mg). The 5 ml page gives its composition per 5 ml ampoule in milligrams at different potencies (for example Arnica montana D4, 500 mg). The same 14 ingredients appear in both, but the potency figures are not identical, so the two should be regarded as separate presentations of Traumeel S rather than interchangeable measures. If you want the background on D potencies, our ingredient guide has a short explainer.
Directions
Both are taken in the same way: break at the marker, tap into a glass of water, take over 15 to 20 minutes, outside of food. Other methods of use, including injection (i.m., s.c., i.d., i.v.), are for trained individuals, e.g. practitioners. The suggested frequency is the same for both: normal dosage is 1 ampoule every 3 days, and in acute disorders 1 ampoule a day. Our guide to taking ampoules by mouth goes through this step by step. Whichever you hold, follow the box.
Which should you choose?
- You are trying Traumeel ampoules for the first time: the 10 x 2.2 ml box is the usual starting point, and the page describes it as a good size to start with.
- You use ampoules regularly or for several people: the 100 x 2.2 ml box (or the 3 x 100 option) suits households and clinics. See 10, 100 or 3 x 100.
- Your practitioner recommended the 5 ml size: in that case, follow their advice.
- You prefer fewer, larger doses: the 5 ml vial gives you one bigger ampoule to drink rather than a smaller one.
If you are comparing the cost per ampoule, remember the vials are different sizes, so the two are not like-for-like. Our product pages show the current figures.
Handling and storage
Both sizes are glass ampoules with a break marker, so open with care. Follow the storage instructions on your box. Our storage and opening guide has more on handling.
Who should be careful?
As with all homeopathic remedies, ask your practitioner or doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if the remedy is for a child, or if you take regular medicines. Severe, persistent or worsening symptoms should always be assessed by a doctor. A homeopathic product is not a substitute for medical care.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 5 ml ampoule the same product as the 2.2 ml one?
Both are Traumeel S ampoules from Heel and share the same ingredient list, but the label presentation (volume, amounts and potency figures) differs. Treat them as two sizes of the same remedy family, not as exact equivalents.
Can I swap between sizes?
Do not try to convert doses yourself. Ask your practitioner if you are changing size mid-course.
Which has more ampoules per box?
Both sizes come in a small and a large box: 10 or 100 for 2.2 ml, 5 or 50 for 5 ml.
Do the pages say anything about children?
For the 2.2 ml ampoule, our product page quotes Heel's Austrian patient leaflet (doses by age from 2 years) and Heel's German product information, which advises against use under 12 because there is not enough documented experience. The 5 ml pages give no children's dosage, so ask your practitioner first. See also Traumeel in pregnancy and for kids.
